Experiments

Throughout creating my Degree Show I had to do a lot of experiments in order to see what combinations were aesthetically pleasing.

I begun by experimenting with different shaped moulds:

By using the hemi-spheres this led me to experiment with polystyrene balls:

I then tried to create these in clay using the plaster moulds:

Followed by experimenting with different tools to create different textures:

I have always enjoyed coiling and decided to practice building again using coils:

My research took me to observing nest and I then started tests in trying to recreate them in clay, I seen inspiration everywhere from rusty wire scrubs:

This led me to looking at maggots and impressing them into clay which left an interesting texture and are a symbol of reincarnation:

When beginning to experiment with glazes I came across a bucket with an unusual substance at the bottom of it:

Due to wrapping up one my clay pieces with pumpkin seeds impressed in it mould grew from the piece:

I began building up forms using moulds:

When experimenting with different oxides I needed the colour of the cocktail sticks to compliment them and did this by dying them in coffee.
